How We Pick

TailTested publishes roundups, head-to-head comparisons and explainers about dog and cat products. Articles are written by the TailTested Editorial Team. This page explains exactly what that work is, and what it is not.

What we do

We read the listing, all of it. For every product we consider, we capture the live Amazon listing on a dated day: title, brand, feature bullets, the full specification table, the seller line, and the rating with its count. Every product claim in an article traces back to that capture. When the listing contradicts itself, we show you both statements rather than guess which is right. When the listing does not say something, we say that it does not say.

Every pick clears a ratings floor. A product must hold at least 4.5 out of 5 stars on at least 1,000 Amazon ratings, checked on the capture date. We show the rating and the count beside each pick, with the date we checked it.

Explainers are checked against sources. Care and how-to guides are written from a dated fact brief, and claims we could not confirm are hedged or cut.

What we don't do

We do not run hands-on product trials, and we never describe a product as if we had. The name is a nod to the pets these products are for, not a claim about a lab. We do not publish prices, because they change daily. We do not invent specs, experts, or reviewers.

Product pages link to Amazon with our Associates tag. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Explainers carry no affiliate links at all. See the affiliate disclosure.

Something wrong?

Listings change. If a detail on a page no longer matches the product's listing, the listing is right and we are out of date. Each pick shows the date its listing was captured.
